Jenny May

How are you and what do you do?

I am Jenny May and last year I fulfilled a longstanding ambition to start my own company, Norma’s Kitchen. My background is in education, I am a qualified teacher with more than 20 years experience of teaching food and nutrition in local secondary schools. Norma’s Kitchen was born because I firmly believe that all children should be taught about food from a young age in school but regrettably these days very few are. My mission is to change that and I currently work within local primary schools encouraging children to experience the joys of cooking.

In addition to my work with schools I also offer private catering and work part time as a chef at Congham Hall; I love food and want to share my passion with as many people as possible!

What do you like about the North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival?

For me the best thing about the North Norfolk Food festival is the fact that it brings together so many local food producers. We live in an area rich with fantastic produce and the festival is a perfect way to celebrate the best of what North Norfolk has to offer.

What can we expect from you this year?

I cannot wait to be in the Cookery Theatre this year and anyone coming to watch should expect a hands-on session aimed at getting young people excited by food. I will definitely need the help of assistants so if you are an aspiring young chef make sure you are near the front!
